Active Employment in Austria
Since 2000, Austria has experienced a rise in the number of employed as well as in those unemployed. This can be explained by a decline in full-time jobs and an increase in the labour pool, especially in the form of non-nationals. The unemployment statistics furthermore fail to register considerable numbers of unemployed persons whose maintenance is financed by the public purse: unemployed enrolled in training, those on sick leave and those getting an advance on their pensions.
