The Importance of Air Transport for Tourism in Austria
The aim of the study is to measure, using quantitative indicators, the economic impact on the City of Vienna and other regions in Austria resulting from visitors (both leisure and business travellers) arriving at and departing from the Vienna-Schwechat hub. By examining the direct and indirect economic effects, the study aims to provide a comprehensive picture of air traffic as a driver of regional and supra-regional tourism and the economy. The analysis shows that the airport is associated with tourism-related value added of up to 3.9 billion €. As air traffic contributes to the emission of climate-damaging gases, this study also analyses measures to reduce them.
