The Development of the Labour Supply in Austria Until 2040

The dynamic microsimulation model mircoDEMS is used to simulate the size and composition of the labour force until 2040, taking into account the influence of individual characteristics on labour force participation and changes in pension law. The simulations show that the number of people in the labour force will increase significantly until 2030 and then remain at roughly the same level until 2040. Depending on the assumption regarding the future development of part-time rates, the volume of labour is likely to increase slightly by 2040 or remain at roughly the same level as in 2023.
