Simon Loretz is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working in the Research Group "Macroeconomics and European Economic
Policy" since 2017. Prior to this he was a senior economist at Institute for Advanced studies in Vienna, a lecturer at the
University of Bayreuth, a research fellow at the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation and a research assistant at
the University of Innsbruck. He completed his doctorate at the University of Innsbruck and obtained his habilitation at the
University of Bayreuth. In addition to his academic background he has been working on various applied research projects for
the national and international policy makers. He was scientific coordinator for a framework contract for the provision of
economic analysis in the area of taxation with the European Commission DG TAXUD. His research interests include international
taxation, tax competition and harmonisation, fiscal federalism and applied microeconometrics.
