Walter Hyll is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working Research Group "Labour Market, Income and Social Security" since
2019. In his main research he investigates employment and income careers and evaluates labour market related policies based
on individual data. He also explores how (risk) preferences, income inequality, and intergroup comparisons affect behaviour
(such as entry into self-employment or effort at the workplace), as well as implications of knowledge of financial concepts
(financial literacy) for decision making at the level of individual agents (households and firms). Walter Hyll studied at
the University of Graz and received his doctoral degree under Oded Stark at the University of Klagenfurt. He was researcher
at the Unit Analysis of Statistics Austria and a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Structural Change and Productivity
at the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) where he was head of the research group "The Impact of Institutions and
Social Norms on Preferences and Behavior". Before that, he worked at the University of Klagenfurt, the Institute for Advanced
Studies Carinthia, the University of Graz, and WIFO. Walter was lecturer for economic courses at different levels for various
universities. He is the author of numerous journal publications, such as Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Economic
Behavior and Organization or Journal of Labor Economics.
