Education, Training and Productivity. Background Study for the European Competitiveness Report 2009
Projektberichte (abgeschlossen), Dezember 2009
Studie von: Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung – National Institute of Economic and Social Research, London – Universität Birmingham
Auftraggeber: Europäische Kommission, GD Unternehmen und Industrie
As part of the framework contract for the preparation of the annual European Competitiveness Reports led by WIFO, our research partners University of Birmingham and NIESR investigated the impact of human capital on competitiveness at sectoral levels. In particular, we aimed to learn whether wage requirements (especially of skilled labour) are in line with its contribution in terms of productivity in the EU and if the potential of education and training is sufficiently explored in terms of productivity achievements, i.e., if education and training systems are adequate. For example, the study investigates which types of training are most beneficial in raising productivity, what difference training and mobility makes, or what the determinants of uptake of training are.
