Produktionszweige mit hoher Faktorkostenintensit\u00e4t haben gegen\u00fcber Oststandorten Standortnachteile. Wenn Skalenertr\u00e4ge die Standortwahl determinieren, finden hingegen Regionen im europ\u00e4ischen Kernraum Vorteile vor. Als wesentliche regionale Marktchancen verbleiben Zulieferfunktionen im europ\u00e4ischen Produktionsnetz, wobei die kosteng\u00fcnstigen Bezugsm\u00e4rkte im Osten genutzt werden k\u00f6nnen. Auch sollten sich Chancen zum Aufbau unternehmensspezifischer Skalenvorteile \u00fcber die Nutzung der neuen Absatzm\u00e4rkte ergeben. Die nieder\u00f6sterreichische Wirtschaft d\u00fcrfte diese Chancen aus der Ost\u00f6ffnung bisher in bedeutendem Ausma\u00df genutzt haben. Die EU-Osterweiterung wird neue Chancen zur Markterweiterung er\u00f6ffnen. Gleichzeitig wird sie Teilbereiche der nieder\u00f6sterreichischen Wirtschaft, die bisher durch hohe Handelsbarrieren zu den assoziierten Staaten gesch\u00fctzt waren, der verst\u00e4rkten Konkurrenz der ostmitteleurop\u00e4ischen Anbieter aussetzen.
