There is a gradual structural change away from manual job tasks. Changes in the occupational task structure are associated with the digitalisation of the Austrian economy, which mirrors automation processes in manufacturing. Industries with a high digital intensity have a lower share of occupations with mainly manual tasks. Investments in computer and communications equipment drive the shift from occupations with manual routine tasks towards occupations with analytical and interactive non-routine tasks.
