Due to the reduction of transaction costs, the possibilities of providing services over greater distances are increasing significantly. Nevertheless, digitisation does not necessarily lead to economic convergence between peripheral and central spaces. Agglomeration advantages and a better equipment with technology, human capital and infrastructure, when human work becomes more complex, further strengthen the location advantages of central regions. Digital technologies nevertheless offer development opportunities for rural areas if the necessary infrastructure and qualified human capital are available. Digitisation also changes global trade flows and fragments value chains.
