By analysing the period 1999-2024 it also highlights the changes in these value chains, caused by a deepening global integration, especially during the first decade of the 21st century (followed by flattening in the following decade). Although contracts are awarded overwhelmingly to firms from member countries (as well as associates and observers; \u00d8 1999-2024: 98 percent), we find that a sizable and increasing share of the value added associated with these contracts benefits non-member countries (on average, 13 percent of value added are generated in these countries, with China as the most important one).
