Supply chains were disrupted, inflation accelerated, energy prices rose significantly and the financial markets experienced a period of heightened uncertainty. These developments also had an impact on global direct investments, whose inflows fell by 16.4 % to USD 1.36 trillion. Strong negative valuation effects, particularly on the stock markets, led to a record 5.9% decline in holdings to USD 44.4 trillion.
