In 2016 both, tourism consumption and non-tourism expenditures on leisure activities by residents generated total value-added effects of 56.46 billion \u20ac (+3.7 percent from previous year) corresponding to a share of 16.1 percent in GDP (2015: 16.0 percent). Furthermore, 741,000 employees and self-employed (in terms of full-time equivalents FTE) were directly and indirectly linked to the tourism and leisure economy, implying that 2 out of 10 employed (FTE) worked in the tourism and leisure sector. After considerable gains in 2015, Austria's real tourism receipts from international and domestic travel both increased slightly by 1.8 and 1.5 percent, respectively. In total, real tourism receipts rose by 1.7 percent (2015 +3.1 percent).
