It characterises the main trends in regional household distribution since the 1970s in Austria and selected developments in housing (area, cost) as well as transport and mobility (reachability, commuting). The second part of the study models the residential choice of Austrian households using discrete-choice methods in order to assess the effect of expected developments. Simulation results suggest relatively large effects of housing cost increases and changes in reachability on the chosen residential region whereas changes in household structure appear to have smaller effects.
