In extrapolated terms, some 310,100 persons of working age felt the impact of the crisis. The number of those generally affected by the crisis does not differ much by socio-economic criteria, although there are marked differences in how they were affected. Almost half of the surveyed businesses in Vienna were also affected by the economic crisis. One in four made staff cuts in response to the crisis. However, flexible working hour schemes appear to have contributed much to stabilising employment during the economic crisis.
