The WIFO-Monatsberichte (monthly reports) contain research results and publications by WIFO staff on national and international economic developments based on sound economic analyses. Additionally, important key figures on the international and Austrian economic situation are published in the WIFO-Monatsberichte.

Um Determinanten und Herausforderungen der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit österreichischer Industrieunternehmen zu identifizieren, befragte das WIFO im Winter 2019/20 zum zweiten Mal mehr als 1.000 der größten österreichischen Industrieunternehmen zu Wettbewerbsstrategien, Wertschöpfungsketten, Kompetenzaufbau und Standortpolitik. Die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der österreichischen Industrieunternehmen fußt demnach auf neuen Technologien und Kompetenzen, die eine differenzierte Wettbewerbsstrategie in Nischen- und Hochqualitätssegmenten der relevanten Zielmärkte ermöglichen. An den Industriestandort Österreich werden insbesondere Anforderungen im Bereich der Aus- und Weiterbildung gestellt.

Challenges and Determinants of the Competitiveness of Austrian Industrial Companies. Results of the WIFO Industry Survey 2019
In winter 2019-20 WIFO surveyed for the second time more than 1,000 of Austria's largest industrial companies on their strategies, value chains, tools of building competences and location policy to identify determinants and challenges of the competitiveness of Austrian industrial firms. The competitiveness of Austria's industrial companies is based on new technologies and competences, which enable differentiated firm strategies in niche and high-quality market segments in the relevant target markets. Austria as an industrial location is particularly challenged in the area of education and training.
