Ulrike Famira-Mühlberger Takes over External Coordination of WIFO

26.09.2019

Regular Transition in the Institute's Management Team as of 1 October 2019

The economist Ulrike Famira-Mühlberger will become Deputy Director at WIFO from 1 October 2019 and will coordinate the external appearance of the institute in future. She succeeds Margit Schratzenstaller as External Coordinator, who will hand over her management function after four years on a rotational basis and will devote more time to her scientific activities.

Famira-Mühlberger has been a research staff member in the WIFO Research Group "Labour Market, Income and Social Security" since 2007. From October 2019, she will hold the position of Deputy Director of WIFO for two years with a focus on marketing and public relations. Her work focusses on long-term care, the interfaces between the labour market and social affairs, and the socioeconomic effects of ageing.

She completed a PhD programme in Social and Political Sciences at the European University Institute in Florence in 2004 and a doctorate in Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2002, where she also habilitated in Economics in 2010. Before joining WIFO, she worked for six years as a university assistant at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in the field of labour economics, interrupted by research stays at Harvard University, UC Berkeley, the University of Turin and the European University Institute.

"We are delighted to welcome Famira-Mühlberger, a widely renowned and highly competent researcher to our management team," said WIFO Director Christoph Badelt, who also took this opportunity to express his thanks to Margit Schratzenstaller for her commitment. Ulrike Famira-Mühlberger, the new External Coordinator, joins Director Christoph Badelt, Head of Finance Bernhard Binder and Internal Coordinator Jürgen Janger to complete the Institute's management team.
