Regional Economics Workshop: how digitisation affects the regions

03.10.2018

More than 20 scientists from eight nations discuss for two days at WIFO.

Recently, WIFO hosted the eleventh international "Regional Economics Workshop" of the Research Unit for Structural Change and Regional Development in cooperation with Professor Geoffrey J.D. Hewings of the University of Illinois.

In addition to participants from WIFO, 20 researchers from eight different countries presented and discussed for two days their own current work on the core topic of this year's workshop ("Winning and Losing Regions in the Age of Digitalisation") as well as other current topics in applied regional economics and economic geography.

In addition to Professor Hewings, Wolfgang Dauth, professor at the University of Würzburg with a research focus on the effects of technological change and international trade on regional labour markets, could also be won as keynote speaker. Through the annual workshop, the Research Area "Structural Change and Regional Development" at WIFO is constantly expanding its international network of researchers for cooperation and consortia in international projects and benefits from feedback on its own work from internationally renowned scientists.
