Initial Implementation of the Regional Tourism Satellite Accounts for Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria and Tyrol and Continuation for Burgenland, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Vienna

Tourism contributes significantly to Austria's value added; at the same time, tourism activities affect numerous economic sectors outside the touristic core, as a result of which the overall economic contribution of tourism cannot be obtained from the official sectoral statistics. WIFO, together with Statistics Austria, is therefore creating tourism satellite accounts for the Austrian provinces, which will complement the existing Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) for Austria. These accounts, which are based on the conceptual and methodological specifications of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UNWTO), will include estimates of the direct and indirect value added and employment effects of tourism.
