Krise der Europäischen Währungsunion dämpft weltweite Wachstumsdynamik. Mittelfristige Prognose der Weltwirtschaft bis 2016 (Euro Area Crisis Dampens Global Growth. Medium-term Forecast of the World Economy Until 2016)
WIFO-Monatsberichte, 2012, 85(1), pp.37-49

Euro Area Crisis Dampens Global Growth. Medium-term Forecast of the World Economy Until 2016
The forecast of the world economy until 2016 is based on a global econometric model (Oxford Model). The forecast rests on the assumption that the uncertainty with respect to the solution of the interest rate and debt crisis in the euro area will persist for some time. Therefore, the euro's exchange rate vis-à-vis the dollar is expected to weaken slightly (to $ 1.23) until 2016. In 2012, the oil price (Brent) will fall (to $ 95 per barrel) owing to the international economic slowdown. However, it will return to about $ 110 by 2016. Over the forecast period the prices of other commodities are expected to decline slightly (–1.9 percent per year), not least as a consequence of the appreciation of the dollar. Both in the USA and in Europe average interest rates during the forecast period will be at their lowest levels since more than 60 years.

WIFO-Monatsberichte, 2012, 85(1), pp.51-62

The Austrian economy will not regain significant momentum before 2014. During the forecast period from 2012 until 2016 real GDP will grow by 1.6 percent per year on average. Exports will expand by 5.5 percent per year. Imports, by contrast, will increase by only 5.1 percent. The average inflation rate during 2012-2016 will be 2.1 percent. Despite the increase of employment tensions in the labour market will remain, as the labour supply will grow, too. At 7.3 percent the unemployment rate will be considerably higher in the forecast period than before. Moderate and sustainable consolidation and reform measures in the public sector will not dampen economic activity excessively in the medium term.
