Tourism Analysis: Demand in Winter 2022-23 Close to Pre-crisis Level, Positive Outlook for Summer 2023

With nearly 19 million arrivals and about 69.3 million overnight stays, tourism demand in Austria picked up strongly from November 2022 to April 2023 compared to the COVID-19 pandemic-affected winter of 2021-22 (+45.6 and +31.5 percent, respectively). At the same time, arrivals were 7 percent and overnight stays just under 5 percent short of the peak figures of the 2018-19 pre-crisis season. Thus, the third-best winter result was achieved. Forecasts for the summer of 2023 predict 80 million overnight stays, which would represent a new peak in overnight stays.
