Allmähliche Erholung nach schwerer Rezession. Mittelfristige Prognose der österreichischen Wirtschaft bis 2014 (Slow Recovery Following Severe Recession. Forecast of the Austrian Economy until 2014)

Slow Recovery Following Severe Recession. Forecast of the Austrian Economy until 2014
At the end of 2008 the international financial and economic crisis triggered the deepest recession since the 1930s. At an
annual rate of 1.8 percent the Austrian economy will expand more slowly – by ¾ percentage points – than in the 10 years before
the economic crisis of 2009. Austria's growth advantage vis-à-vis the average of the euro area is diminishing, not least because
exports to Central and Eastern Europe are likely to expand less dynamically.
The global financial and economic crisis will have an adverse effect on Austria's growth in the medium-term. Between 2010
and 2014, gross domestic product will expand by an average of 1.8 percent per year. The recession has lasting effects on the
labour market and public finances. The inflation rate will remain low. The forecast assumes that measures to consolidate the
public finances are taken as soon as the crisis is overcome in 2011.
