WIFO has developed a full-scale information system for business statistics for its own activities. The WIFO database's primary focus is on facts and figures tracking the Austrian economy. This central datastock, designated as "KGEN", covers general data on the Austrian economy, a category that includes about 28,000 data series, broken down by key areas as follows: - labour market,
- national accounts,
- forecasts,
- incomes,
- private consumption,
- investments,
- imports,
- exports,
- finances,
- prices and deflators,
- agriculture and forestry,
- manufacturing,
- services,
- national budget,
- investment and business survey,
- regional economy,
- international economy.
A large part of the data is developed in-house or obtained from suppliers (i.a., Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Statistik Austria, Federation of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions). For the purposes of the WIFO database, the data are systematised, processed and supplemented on an ongoing basis whenever new data become available. Special attention is devoted to the maintenance of long time series and easy processing. The WIFO database also contains time series developed by international organisations, such as Deutsche Bundesbank, Eurostat, OECD, IMF, United Nations and the World Bank. For most of this datastock, WSR has no marketing rights so that such data cannot be made accessible to all comers. Access is therefore restricted to universities and government bodies. |
