Silvia Rocha-Akis is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working in the Research Group "Labour market, Income and Social
Security" since 2012. Her research and work focus on income distribution and redistribution, tax and transfer systems, welfare
state, distribution and revenue effects of economic policy measures, and the development of microsimulation models. Her recent
projects include ex-ante and ex-post evaluations of tax reforms, the WIFO redistribution study, and analyses of the socioeconomic
impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austria. After her studies at the Department of Economics of the University of Vienna (Magister),
she received her doctorate in the special research area "International Tax Coordination" (FWF) at the Institute for Foreign
Trade and Development of the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna). She then worked in the Economic Analysis
Division of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and as a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Labour Economics at the WU
Vienna. She was a guest at the Freie Universität Berlin, received the Young Economists' Award of the Nationalökonomische Gesellschaft
2008 and the Klaus Liebscher Award 2008, gave numerous lectures and wrote articles in international journals, including the
Scandinavian Journal of Economics and the Canadian Journal of Economics.
