Reports (work in progress), November 2017
This report provides an overview of the state of agriculture in countries and regions of the Danube River Basin. Each chapter deals with one country or a region and describes the state of economic and agri-environmental indicators, current agricultural policy measures, programmes and ongoing reforms relevant for nutrient discharge in the regions, gives an overview of instruments to reduce water pollution, provides evidence on the effectiveness of measures to mitigate pollution. Each country report ends with an outlook at the likely development of the agricultural sector and a synthesis of findings.

Reports (work in progress), November 2017
This report provides a summary of country studies that analyse the role of the agricultural sector in the Danube River Basin. In addition, it explores ways to reduce the impact of agricultural production in water resources, concerning both the quality and the quantity. The focus of the report is on identifying cost-effectiveness of measures. For this purpose an extensive literature survey was conducted. The report summarises ways to improve the governance of environmental measures at various levels of regulation. A major finding of the study is that the cost of reducing harmful substances varies significantly across the regions. In some parts of the Danube River Basin pressure indicators indicate a reduction of noxious impacts during the last years. Forecasts about the likely future development of the agricultural sector indicate that environmentally harmful emissions are likely to be reduced even further.

Current research studies (work in progress)
In this study a structure is developed for country reports on measures to reduce water pollution by agriculture. The aim is to obtain a coherent overview of national approaches in regulation and governance of pollution reducing efforts. The interaction between agricultural and environmental policy measures is of special interest. The report will show to what extent countries that have association agreements with the EU have already adopted water conservation and water protection policies that are in line with EU legislation and programmes. The report ends with policy conclusions aiming at attaining a better integration of river basin wide integrated approaches in cross border water management.
